PETER ENGEL - EARLY PICTURES
January 30 to February 26, 2026
Cordial invitation to the opening on Friday, January 30, 2026, 7 pm
Peter Engel (1944-2014) studied under Johannes Schreiter at the Städelschule in Frankfurt from 1964 to 1967 and was a lecturer in painting technique there for almost twenty years from 1974. In 1980, he took over the artistic direction of the Städelabendschule. The focus of our solo exhibition is on Peter Engel's early work, which combines representational and abstract painting styles - painting on the cusp of the later still lifes inspired by Pop Art, which led to a change in his work after his stay in Great Britain in 1967 and his acquaintance with David Hockney and Mark Lancaster, among others.
