IN FOCUS - BERT DÜERKOP

27 March to 27 April 2024

With successive focal points from the 1960s to the 1990s, this exhibition series brings together artists from the gallery. Harald de Bary is followed by Bert Düerkop.

Bert Düerkop (1935-2020) was able to bring vital and powerful structures of colour to the canvas. A post-expressive gesture dominates with blurred colours that are sometimes dark, sometimes bright. In all their abstraction, these paintings are linked to the subject matter via the titles. The eye constantly follows the broad lines that have been laid over the background like a net until they allow it to emerge. This gives Düerkop's paintings spatiality.

In the gallery space, his works enter into a dialogue with the delicately shifted monochrome bodies of colour by Karin Radoy and works on paper by Karin Radoy and works on paper by Georg Heck, Marco Spitzar, Erich Werner and others.
