Karl Heidelbach
28.03. bis 11.05. 2019
Opening: Thursday, March 28, 2019, 7 pm
Karl Heidelbach (1923-1993) is one of the most important representatives of a post-surreal verism approaching Pop Art. Influenced by New Objectivity and his acquaintance with Otto Dix, the artist, who trained at the Städelschule in Frankfurt and the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, created works in an almost old-masterly, meticulous painting style. While his dolls and robots appear surreally animated, the figures in his cityscapes and portraits of people seem strangely removed from everyday life. Heidelbach's works have been included in numerous public collections. The gallery is presenting pictures from the Cologne artist's estate for the first time in Frankfurt.
