OTTOMAR GASSENMEYER
Ottomar Gassenmeyer (1930-2012) studied sculpture under Prof. Hans Mettel at the Städelschule and became his master student in 1958. He was sponsored by the "Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes", and in 1964/65 he was a scholarship holder at the Villa Massimo in Rome. In Frankfurt and Offenbach, where he lived with his family, there are several notable works in public spaces. Throughout his life, he never had a gallery that exhibited his work. In 2005 there was a solo exhibition at the Seligenstädter Kunstforum, in 2006 the Museum Giersch showed a retrospective. Through his social commitment in his Lohwald clay workshop, most recently run with Offenbach art teacher Alexa Kumm, Gassenmeyer was known to many Offenbach residents. He motivated disadvantaged children to create and enabled them to experience creative success in a protected space.
